Why TradingView needs the exchange prefix

A TradingView watchlist file lists every symbol as EXCHANGE:TICKER, for example NASDAQ:AAPL or OANDA:XAUUSD. Ticker lists from spreadsheets, screeners, newsletters and other platforms rarely include that prefix, and many use their own conventions, like Yahoo Finance’s VOD.L or BTC-USD. Without the right prefix TradingView may skip a symbol, or pick a different listing from the one you meant. This converter looks every ticker up in our database of more than 840,000 TradingView symbols and gives you the exact one, ready to import.

How to import the converted list into TradingView

    1. Check the matches. Where a ticker trades on several exchanges, pick the one you want from the dropdown.
    2. Click Download .txt.
    3. In TradingView, open the watchlist panel, click the watchlist name and choose Upload list…
    4. Select the file. Lists over 1,000 symbols need splitting first with the Watchlist Cleaner.

    FAQ

How do I convert a list of tickers into a TradingView watchlist?
Paste the tickers into the box above in any format, press Convert, check the matches and download the .txt file. Then in TradingView click the watchlist name, choose Upload list and select the file.
Why does TradingView need the exchange in front of the ticker?
The same ticker can exist on many exchanges and brokers, so TradingView identifies each symbol as EXCHANGE:TICKER. Lists without the prefix may import incompletely or pick a different listing from the one you meant.
Can I convert Yahoo Finance tickers to TradingView?
    Yes. Yahoo-style tickers such as VOD.L, 0700.HK, BRK-B, BTC-USD, EURUSD=X, GC=F and ^GSPC are converted to their TradingView equivalents, for example LSE:VOD, HKEX:700, NYSE:BRK.B, COINBASE:BTCUSD, FX:EURUSD, COMEX:GC1! and SP:SPX.
What if a ticker exists on several exchanges?
The converter picks the main listing, for example NASDAQ for Apple, and shows every other match in a dropdown so you can choose a different exchange or broker.
What happens to tickers that aren't found?
They're marked in red. You can type the full TradingView symbol yourself, look it up in the Watchlist Builder, or leave it out of the file.
Can I convert an MT4 or MT5 symbol list to TradingView?
Yes. Broker suffixes such as EURUSDm, XAUUSD.pro, GBPJPY-ECN and US30.cash are removed automatically and matched to TradingView symbols like FX:EURUSD and OANDA:XAUUSD. You can choose a different broker from the dropdown.
    Is my list stored?
No. Your tickers are matched against our symbol database and the results are sent back to your browser. The list itself isn't saved.
