| Phase (SETS order book) | Time (London) |
|---|---|
| Opening auction | 7:50 am – 8:00 am |
| Continuous trading | 8:00 am – 4:30 pm |
| Closing auction | 4:30 pm – 4:35 pm |
The LSE trades Monday to Friday with no lunch break on its main order book. The auctions end at a random moment within about 30 seconds of the times shown, which helps prevent last-second manipulation. The closing auction sets the official closing prices used for the FTSE 100 and other indices.
London observes British Summer Time (BST, UTC+1) from late March to late October, and GMT (UTC+0) the rest of the year. In 2026 the clocks go back on October 25. The live clock converts the hours to your time zone automatically.

London-listed shares use the LSE: prefix, for example LSE:VOD. UK share prices are usually quoted in pence (GBX), not pounds, so 150.00 means £1.50. The FTSE 100 index is FTSE:UKX, and the “UK100” CFDs offered by brokers track it. See also the world market hours clock and GBP/USD symbols.
