What the TradingView free plan includes
TradingView’s free plan is called Basic. It’s a full charting platform with no time limit and no card required, but with tight limits. Here it is next to Essential, the cheapest paid plan:

What you can’t do on the free plan
- Import or export a watchlist. “Upload list…” and “Create new list…” both open an upgrade prompt on Basic. You add symbols one at a time with the + button. In our test, pasting several symbols separated by commas into the search box didn’t add them all at once.
- Keep more than one watchlist, or more than 30 symbols in it.
- Use a third indicator. Two per chart is the limit most people hit first.
- Set alerts on indicators, strategies or drawings. Basic only has 3 price alerts, and they expire after a month.
- View more than one chart per tab or save more than one layout.
- Use Bar Replay on intraday timeframes, or second-based intervals.
Ads are shown on Basic. Every paid plan removes them.
Getting the most from the free plan
- Keep your one watchlist focused. With 30 symbols, list only what you actually trade and swap symbols out as your focus changes. See the watchlist guide.
- Choose your two indicators deliberately. One indicator can draw several lines (Bollinger Bands, for example, is one indicator with three bands). See the indicators guide for the limits per plan.
- Re-set alerts monthly. Basic alerts last a month, so note the expiry date shown in the alert window.
- Change the look for free. Colour themes and dark mode work on every plan: try the chart colors generator.
- Know your data delay. Some exchanges are delayed unless you buy their real-time data. Check yours with the data delay checker.
These run in your browser and work the same whatever TradingView plan you’re on:
When it’s worth upgrading
If you keep hitting the same limit, Essential is the cheapest step up: $12.95 a month billed annually, with 5 indicators per chart, 2 charts per tab, multiple watchlists of up to 1,000 symbols with import and export, and 20 price alerts plus 20 indicator alerts. That’s also what you need to import lists from our watchlist builder. Not sure which plan fits? Try the plan picker, or see current prices on TradingView’s pricing page.
