What is TradingView Bar Replay?

Bar Replay hides every bar after a point you choose, then plays the chart forward bar by bar, as if the market were happening again. You can practise reading price action, test how an idea would have played out, and place paper trades without knowing what comes next.

How to use Bar Replay

  1. Click “Bar replay” in the top toolbar of the chart.
  2. Choose where to start. Use Select bar and click a bar on the chart, Select date… to type a date (it also offers Select the first available day), or Random bar to start somewhere unknown.
  3. Press Play to replay automatically (you can change the speed), or Forward to move one bar at a time.
  4. Return to live data with Jump to real-time chart. To close replay, click the X or the Bar replay button again.

Replay sessions are saved automatically, so you can come back to them. In a multi-chart layout, TradingView lets you replay the current chart only, or all charts in sync.

What works during a replay

How far back can you replay on each plan?

Daily and higher intervals replay all available history. For intraday intervals, TradingView limits how far back you can go by plan. On Essential the limit is 6 months × the interval in minutes, and on Plus it’s 1 year × the interval in minutes:

IntervalBasic (free)EssentialPlusPremium & Ultimate
1 day and higherAllAllAllAll
1 minute—6 months1 yearAll
2 minutes—12 months2 yearsAll
3 minutes—18 months3 yearsAll
5 minutes—30 months5 yearsAll
15 minutes—90 months15 yearsAll
Seconds———All (from 17 Aug 2022)
Ticks———Ultimate only: 7 days

“All” means all the history TradingView has for that symbol. “—” means TradingView doesn’t list replay history for that plan. Sources: TradingView’s Bar Replay help article and pricing page, October 2026.

The real limit is also the symbol’s own history. In TradingView’s example, Apple’s daily data starts in December 1980, its 1-minute data in January 2000 and its 1-second data in August 2022.

Continuous futures (like ES1! or ES2!) and futures using “settlement as close” have their own limits: 6 months of 1-minute data on Essential, 1 year on Plus, and 1 year of 1-minute plus 30 days of seconds data on Premium and above.

Chart types Bar Replay doesn’t support

Replay doesn’t work on Renko, Kagi, Point & Figure, Range, Line Break, Volume footprint and Time Price Opportunity charts, on spread charts, or on tick-based charts. Switch to candles, bars or another standard type first.

Troubleshooting

“Data point unavailable”

You switched to a lower interval and the replay point is further back than that interval’s limit on your plan. Move the start point closer to today, or use a higher interval.

Getting further back on intraday charts

Start on a higher interval (for example 1 hour), use Select bar to pick your start point, then switch down to the lower interval.

Replay jumped to a different date

If you choose a start point older than the data available to you, replay starts from the first available bar instead.
