Futures tick and point values

A tick is the smallest price move a contract can make; the tick value is what that move is worth per contract. The point value (or multiplier) is what a move of 1.0 in the price is worth.

How futures profit is calculated

Ticks = (Exit − Entry) ÷ Tick size (reversed for a short)
Profit = Ticks × Tick value × Contracts − fees

Example: long 1 ES from 5,000 to 5,010 is 10 points = 40 ticks × $12.50 = $500. The same move on MES (one tenth the size) is $50.

Micro vs E-mini

Micro contracts (MES, MNQ, MYM, M2K, MCL, MGC, SIL) are one tenth the size of their E-mini or standard versions, so every tick is worth a tenth as much. They let smaller accounts trade the same markets with less risk per point.

On TradingView, futures use tickers like CME_MINI:ES1!; see S&P 500, Nasdaq 100, oil and gold symbols. Trading hours are on the stock market hours clock. All tools: trading calculators.
