Monthly options expiration dates 2026

Standard monthly US equity and index options expire on the third Friday of each month. When that Friday is a market holiday, expiration moves to the Thursday before. Past dates are greyed out and the next one is highlighted.

June 2027 also moves to Thursday, June 17, because Juneteenth is observed on Friday, June 18, 2027. The OCC usually publishes the official next-year schedule in December; the 2027 dates above are the third Fridays with the holiday adjustment applied.

Triple witching dates

Triple witching (sometimes called quadruple witching) is the quarterly day when stock options, stock index options and stock index futures all expire together: the third Friday of March, June, September and December. Volume is often unusually heavy, especially around the open and close.

How index futures settle

Quarterly E-mini S&P 500 (ES) and Nasdaq-100 (NQ) futures stop trading at the 9:30 am ET open on expiration day and settle to a Special Opening Quotation calculated from the opening prices of the index’s stocks, not to the previous close. If the third Friday is a holiday, this happens on the business day before. Many traders roll to the next contract about a week before expiry. Tick values are on the futures calculator, and month codes on futures month codes.

Weekly and daily options

Many index and ETF options also have weekly expirations, and the most active (such as SPX and SPY options) have contracts expiring every trading day. The dates on this page are the standard monthly expirations. Calculate an option’s payoff at expiry with the options profit calculator.
