TradingView Watchlist Cleaner & Splitter
Paste or upload a TradingView watchlist to remove duplicate symbols, fix the formatting that breaks imports, flag symbols with no exchange prefix, and split lists over 1,000 symbols into separate files. It’s free and runs in your browser, so your list never leaves your computer.
What the watchlist cleaner fixes
- Duplicate symbols. TradingView exports often contain repeated lines. In the exports we analysed for our symbol format guide, an 816-line crypto list held only 809 unique symbols. The cleaner matches the full symbol, so
NASDAQ:AAPL and BOATS:AAPL are treated as different instruments, which they are.
- The 1,000-symbol limit. A TradingView watchlist holds up to 1,000 symbols. Bigger lists are split into numbered files, and section headers carry over so each file still makes sense on its own.
- Spreadsheet junk. Smart quotes, byte-order marks, stray spaces, blank lines, semicolons and lowercase tickers are all cleaned up automatically.
- Missing exchange prefixes. Symbols without
EXCHANGE: are flagged, because TradingView resolves them differently depending on your device and data plan.
- Unwanted venues. Every exchange in your list appears as a chip. Click one, BOATS for example, to drop all of its symbols in one go.
How to import the cleaned watchlist into TradingView
- Download the cleaned file. If your list was split, download every file.
- In TradingView, open the watchlist panel on the right of the chart.
- Click the watchlist menu (⋮) and choose Import list.
- Select your
.txt file. Repeat for each part if you have more than one.
TradingView watchlist file format
A TradingView watchlist is a plain .txt file with one symbol per line, or all on one line separated by commas. Optional section headers start with three hashes, like ###Crypto. The cleaner outputs either layout: one per line is easier to read, and comma-separated matches what TradingView itself exports.
FAQ
How many symbols can a TradingView watchlist hold?
TradingView allows up to 1,000 symbols per watchlist. If your list is longer, the cleaner splits it into several files of up to 1,000 symbols each, and you import each one as a separate watchlist.
Why does my TradingView watchlist import fail or skip symbols?
The usual causes are symbols without an exchange prefix, characters TradingView can't read (such as smart quotes copied from a spreadsheet), more than 1,000 symbols in one file, or tickers that don't exist on the exchange you named. The cleaner fixes formatting automatically and flags the rest.
How do I remove duplicates from a TradingView watchlist?
Paste the list or upload the .txt file above. Duplicates are removed by full symbol, so the same ticker on two different exchanges is kept, while true repeats are dropped. Then download the cleaned file and import it.
Is my watchlist uploaded anywhere?
No. The cleaner runs entirely in your browser. Your watchlist is never sent to a server.
Can I keep my watchlist sections?
Yes. Section headers such as ###Crypto are kept by default. You can also remove them, or regroup the list into one section per exchange.
What format does a TradingView watchlist file use?
A plain text file with one symbol per line or comma-separated, each written as EXCHANGE:TICKER, with optional ### section headers.
